Young New Zealand Samoan Students Compete In Oratory

The first speech is scheduled to kick off just before 10 this morning. The pressure’s on for students competing in the National Samoan Speakers Competition in Lower Hutt.  Wellington fielded the largest number of competitors by a long shot with Auckland trailing in second place.  Health is the speech topic.

What an audience they’ll be performing in front of. They are braver than many adults…wanting to practice their language  skills.

It’s enough of a pressure that they will be competing with others from Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch. Then, there’s parents on hand to help. Now add to that audience…dignitaries (aside from Mum and Dad) such as the High Commissioner for Samoa…Asi Tuiataga James Faafili Blakelock, the Minister of Pacific Islands Affairs…Luamanuvao Winnie Laban.

Did we mention His Worship the Mayor of Lower Hutt, Reverend Senetenari Iupeli from EKFS, the judging panel and others. Congratulations to all the students. Their names are published below along with their school.

MC is  Fetalaiga Lavea Tupuola Lemalu Sione Malifa. Judging the competition:
